Preference of Subterranean Termites among Community Timber Species in Bogor, Indonesia

چکیده
Many methods have been explored to increase the palatability of pine (Pinus merkusii), most common wood used for termite baiting. However, because undersupply in Indonesia, it is crucial vary species baiting and look potential alternatives. Furthermore, various studies shown that time influences intensity pattern attacks. Therefore, present research aimed study preferences subterranean termites find ideal among community from Bogor, West Java, as a alternative pine. The woods tested were Acacia mangium (acacia), Falcataria moluccana (sengon), Anthocephalus cadamba (jabon), Maesopsis eminii (manii), Swietenia mahagoni (mahogany), Hevea brasiliensis (rubberwood), P. merkusii (pine). Field tests carried out based on American Society Testing Materials D 1758-06 at Arboretum, Faculty Forestry Environment, IPB University, with one six months. results led identification four termites, namely Microtermes sp., Macrotermes Shedorhinotermes Capritermes sp.. frequency attacks test site reached 93.1%. Rubberwood was bait indicated by highest average weight loss value (65.8%) shorter optimal (up month) than other woods.

Toxicity of Thiamethoxam Against Philippine Subterranean Termites
Thiamethoxam (ACTARA 25WG) was evaluated for its termiticidal properties against three species of economically important subterranean termites (Isoptera: Termitidae) in the Philippines: Nasutitermes luzonicus Oshima, Macrotermes gilvus Hagen, and Microcerotermes losbanosensis Oshima. Results of the study indicated that exposure to soil or ingestion of paper treated with thiamethoxam at concentr...
متن کاملUric Acid and Soluble Protein Content of Feces from Three Species of Subterranean Termites (isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)
Like all animals, termites must dispose of excess nitrogen from protein and purine digestion and metabolism. Nitrogenous wastes in insect feces are primarily ammonia or uric acid (Cochran 1985, Chapman 1998). Ammonia is often the primary nitrogenous waste product of insects that live in aquatic or very moist environments. For insects that live in dry habitats, or need to conserve body weight fo...

متن کاملA Constraint Condition for Foraging Strategy in Subterranean Termites
Previous studies have explored the relationship between termite branch tunnel geometry and foraging efficiency in a model simulation in which foraging efficiency, γ, for two termite species, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki and Reticulitermes flavipes (Kollar) (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae), was investigated in response to two variables, the probability of tunnel branching (P(branch)) and the probab...
